Featured FPGA engineer role in Ghent, Sophie goes back out, Ariane 6 tries GEO
Hey,
we’re still alive. Thanks for asking.
If you were on Spain last week you already had the show of the year. Life stepped in the way between the 100% and me so this is the best I could get:

Not quite the full eclipse but nearly there ;)
But while all of you us were on enjoying the summer break, the job board didn’t stop.
Plus, the next 10 days are actually very busy: spacewalks, Ariane 6 launch and then it's September, which in this industry is when people come back from holidays and start hiring for real.
And there’s the (now usual?) possible Starship launch on the 28th. Kaboom or not kaboom…? Maybe it’s a good excuse to remember this
So this is the "get in now" email

⭐ Featured Space Jobs
FPGA Engineer @ EDGX (Ghent, Belgium)
👉 In three years since founding they have already flown two of their computers to orbit. They build onboard AI computers so satellites process data in space instead of waiting for the downlink. And they have raised funding, won institutional and commercial contracts and they're scaling fast…
This week's (summer) picks
Internal Research Fellow (PostDoc) in Onboard Agentic AI for Autonomous EO Constellations @ ESA (Frascati)
👉 I had to read it twice too. ESA-GPT anyone? Jokes aside, having an AI that lives on the satellite and tasks/controls the constellation is a MASSIVE deal…PhD in AI for Earth Observation @ KTH (Stockholm)
👉 And more AI :) This is a top funded PhD opportunity to train models on satellite imagery to spot wildfires, pollution, illegal waste… If "I watch the planet for a living" is the sentence you want at dinners, you can apply and thank me later.Research Officer in the Earth Simulation Lab @ Utrecht University (Netherlands)
👉 Not another PhD, relax. But who hasn’t dreamt about running a reserach lab to support Earth simulation science? Come on.Business Development Internship @ Revolv Space (Italy)
👉 This isn’t your typical internship opportunity, so you’d better be quick. I won’t spoil it so that you check it out and apply. Learning and growth guaranteed. Apply and tell me how it goes, deal?ESO Fellowship Programme Chile 2026/2027 @ European Southern Observatory (Chile)
👉 Four years. First three: approx 80 nights a year on Paranal or ALMA. Fourth year: basically wherever you want. (There's a Europe version too if Chile isn't the move)Cybersecurity Trainee @ SatCen (Sunny Spain)
👉 Six months in the cyber team at EU satellite intelligence. You’ve got to be a recent grad or on last year of your degree. And of course enjoy cybersecurity and space :)Group Accountant @ SKAO (UK)
👉 Non-engineers, this one's yours. You do the books for an observatory that spans the UK, South Africa and Australia. "Group accountant" is a normal title. "For the world's largest radio telescope o.O" is the bit you leave in.

We’re back and so I get one question: how did the job hunt actually go this summer. Hit reply. I read them.

🗞️ This week in space
Sophie Adenot went outside last Tuesday. She is the first French woman to do a spacewalk. And wasn’t short at all: 6h23 with NASA's Anil Menon. They got a dead antenna off the ISS but they did not get the new one on so she'll be going back out next tuesday to finish the job.
If for some reason you have 8 hours to spare, I’ve got you covered:
Two days after that, on 27 August, Ariane 6 will attempt to launch a geostationary satellite for the first time. So far it’s performed beautifully well, so let’s hope for a successful launch!
And two weeks ago the Commission and SpaceRISE signed the agreement to build IRIS². 348 satellites (66 extra in higher LEO for defence, security and emergencies), first launches in 2029 and a bill around €15.6B. 2029 is still 2029, but at least it's a “real” programme now.
That's all for this week.
Until next week,
Jaime
