Let's talk space (jobs) now

Good morning!

Another loud week (quite literally). SpaceX dropped fresh news ahead of the IPO (and a video they clearly want you to watch), Blue Origin had a very bad day on the pad, and Europe stayed quiet. More on all of that at the bottom.

But first: the jobs. We bring a genuinely varied batch this week: a funded PhD, a spaceplane working-student opportunity, radio astronomy and a couple of startup roles worth a detailed look.

  👉 You might not know them but the team at Orbint is building RF tech for the next wave of space comms and they want a serious RF “brain” to own systems design… IYKYK ;)

  👉 Shown last week... but it’s still open................ apply!!! Seriously; this is one of Europe's top space accelerators so at least share it with all your business student friends

• Principal Researcher in Space Plasma Physics @ Austrian Academy of Sciences (Graz)

  👉 A big one for the science pros. Space plasma is a hot topic (haha) and even better is to get to lead your own line of research. Plus "Principal Researcher" looks rather good on your office door.

• Internship — Wide-field Telescope Design & Commissioning @ DLR (Trauen, Germany)

  👉 Want to design and commission a real telescope for a ground station? I mean: the space industry offers very many things but not many like this.

• Junior Project Manager, SKA-Mid Dish @ SKAO (Cheshire, UK)

  👉 Our friends at SKAO don’t stop and another great opportunity has come: Junior PM on the largest radio telescope ever built. I think that says it all, no?

• ADRIOS Assembly, Integration & Testing Manager @ ESA (Noordwijk)

  👉 ADRIOS is ESA's active debris-removal mission: literally building the next space sweeper (not this though but an actual active debris removal spacecraft)

• Communication Trainee @ SatCen (Madrid)

  👉 Non engineers hiring alert! Communications (not sat ones but company ones) is a big thing and not many in the space industry know how to do it well.

• Lecturer in Mechatronics & Aerospace Engineering @ Aston University (Birmingham)

  👉 If you'd rather build the next generation of engineers than the next satellite, here's a permanent academic post doing exactly that… :)

🗞️ This week in space

It seems each week gets more interesting in the space world. Last week we saw Starship test flight and SpaceX IPO announcement. Well, this week we got SpaceX share some more news (pretty recent ones!). It’s a big topic and a lot of mixed opinions (some very well founded I have to say). I’m no financial advisor (I only know space and jobs pretty much) so you choose what to do when the stock goes live but in the meantime, to convince you to buy (probably), they released this very very very very nice video: (spoiler: the vid is 17 min)

But that’s not all. You probably have seen what happened but Blue Origin suffered a massive setback when their New Glenn rocket exploded in a static fire on the launch pad. The explosion is crazy but “luckily” (?) the damage wasn’t that bad and they still aim for a launch by the end of the year:

And there’s no news from Isar so it’s pretty unlikely we’ll see another orbital launch attempt from a private European company any time soon…
