Industry-linked PhDs you can't miss

Plus roles at OHB, Nanoavionics, GomSpace... and more!

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Issue #12. The European space job market is constantly moving and new roles are opening pretty much daily!

This week we highlight two top industrial research opportunities for those of you still unsure about pursuing a PhD (I know it’s a few of you). This way you can get the best of both worlds. And, as usual, more jobs below.

Let’s take a look.

🚀 Spotlight: New on findaspacejob.com

Here are a few of the fresh roles added directly to the site this week.

  • Space Propulsion PhD Researcher @ Cranfield University & Magdrive
This one is a very good opportunity. A fully funded PhD where you’ll work directly with the startup Magdrive on their high thrust propulsion system. (In case you’re still wondering if it’s the right time… maybe?)

  • Optical Satellite Communications PhD @ University of Luxembourg & Odysseus Space
This is also not a purely academic PhD. You will work directly with the company Odysseus Space on an industrial project to develop a new optical communications simulator. A great way to get industry experience while doing your research.

  • Sales and Marketing Coordinator @ EDGX
Not a PhD but still a relevant opportunity! This opportunity will be closing soon so don’t wait to apply.

Space Career Thought: the “empty phrase” check

Here’s a tip for some of you. Open your CV and delete these phrases:

  • Responsible for…

  • Duties include…

  • and so on

It’s not that they are bad (in fact as I write this I saw I have a few on my CV 😅 - time for a review I think) but they could be made better by using action verbs that show what you actually do.

  • Tested, validated and documented…

  • Analysed data from … to achieve …

  • and more (and better) examples you can come up with. This is just to give you an idea.

It’s a small change but makes you sound like someone who gets things done and not like someone who simply has responsibilities. Because is the key: answer the recruiters “mental” doubts and basically get him to say in his head (something like): “This candidate is resourceful and can get things done quickly; I (or the team) won’t have to be babysitting him. Let’s talk.”

Hope it helps!

💡 CV Boost Update

Thanks for reaching out with your CVs! The weekly CV review is still one of the best parts of my week. I'm still selecting one subscriber at random for a review.

For the new people here: if you want a chance to get a fresh pair of eyes on your CV, just reply to this email with it attached and tell me the type of role you're aiming for. No promises, but I do one every week.

🔗 Help This Community Grow

I need your help to expand our reach:

  1. Tell me: Which company (or kind of role) should I add next? I’ll use your replies to prioritise upcoming job hunts.

  2. Share: Know someone looking for a role in space? Forward this email or share findaspacejob.com - your share helps grow this for everyone.

  3. Build with me: Have you got any feedback for the newsletter or board? The more feedback, the better the site becomes.

Your input directly shapes our next steps!

And that’s all this week: 12 out of 12. I hope you found it useful.

As usual, more to come in findaspacejob.com during the week.

Until next Thursday,

Jaime
