Europe's Raising and Hiring Massively
€50M for Reflex, $104M for EnduroSat. And a lot of new job openings.
Hello hello,
Now I’m not going to include the full list of internships but this week includes loads of them. If you’re a student looking for an internship, this is the week you find one.
(If you don’t find it, don’t worry, it’s not like there won’t be more. Keep going 💪)
For the rest of non students, don’t worry, we’ve got your back as well.
Off we go
🚀 Spotlight: New on findaspacejob.com
If you care about the exact number: it was more than 200 internship positions posted only by ESA this week. That and a few other cool roles this week
Lead Engineer / System Engineer for Space Mechanisms @ LEOspace (Germany)
👉 Help a young startup grow big time
ESA Graduate Trainee in Copernicus Benefits Assessment @ ESA (Italy)
👉 Another graduate trainee position opened: help evaluate Copernicus benefits!
System Engineering Intern on 12U CubeSat @ CSUM (France)
👉 A very very very very good internship. Did I say very????
Fully Funded PhD in Advanced Data Compression & Compact Data Structures @ UAB (Spain)
👉 For all of you data science space researchers: why not do a PhD?
Engineering Internship @ ESO (Germany)
👉 Another internship but not at ESA but ESO 😉 you won’t build satellites here but is still cool, don’t worry.
Sales Manager in Space Products -100% (m/f/d) @ Thales Alenia Space (Switzerland)
👉 There’s no point in building anything if you don’t sell it. And it’s one of the most important skills anyone can/should develop. So there you go.
Space Segment Operations Engineer @ Thales Alenia Space (Italy)
👉 A good role at a soon to be massive company (remember Airbus, Thales and Leonardo are combining their space divisions)
Intern in Exploration Technologies for Human Spaceflight @ ESA (Germany
👉 There are plenty of really cool internships opened. I had to choose one.
Intern in the ESA Director General's Cabinet @ ESA (France)
👉 Want to work with ESA’s big boss? 😎
There are plenty of other jobs in the job board so be sure to check it out. Or else you might miss out…
💰 And we have more funding rounds!
Last week we had the mega merger (Airbus, Thales and Leonardo). Whether that was good or bad news… time will tell. It’s good you start building your own opinions at things (if you don’t know then ask, read, think for a bit and be open to change your mind).
But this week we have definitely better news with the two funding announcements by EnduroSat and Reflex Aerospace.
Reflex Aerospace just raised €50 million. This is now the biggest Series A in European sewspace to date: niiiiiiiiiiiiice. (Very nice, indeed). They’re not quite about their goal: to build faster, smarter satellites as defense/national security demand ramps up.
And a few days earlier, EnduroSat announced $104 million and opened a new Space Center in Sofia. They are aiming to produce up to two satellites per day. Also very nice. If they hit even half that consistently, Europe’s constellation cadence changes. Now Europe will be missing rapid access to space… and let’s see when/if that comes… and at what cost 🤦♂️ But there are quite a few promising launcher companies for that!
But what does this mean for you/me/us? A few things I can think of. If you build or operate satellites, expect shorter timelines and higher expectations. If you’re hiring, plan for more competition (and more candidates). If you’re job hunting, well lucky you, it’s a great time to look for a job in satellite manufacturing companies.
It’s clear that European satellite manufacturing is scaling. My guess is that we will see more deals like these and a faster loop from design to orbit. Now we have yet another race to see who can turn capital to manufactured satellites.
That’s it for the week.
