Europe is having a moment

We are in orbit!

Hello hello,

Isar Aerospace just put Spectrum into orbit from Andøya on their second flight! In case you missed it (I highly doubt it though) this was the first privately funded launch company from continental Europe to reach orbit and deliver satellites. More below.

There’s been A LOT of launcher/rockets related news this week: seems we were on a European launcher week because it’s not just been Isar making the headlines…

But first… the jobs 👇👇👇👇

🗞️ This week in space

Isar Aerospace put Spectrum into orbit on Flight 2. If you want a quick recap: just check out this post below (it might not be formatted nicely but do check it out - the video is amazing)

But don’t forget that the hard part starts now. Reaching orbit once is one (very positive) thing, but scaling, flying often enough to be competitive and eventually building a larger rocket is the real challenge. They’re already pointing that way, though (and that will mean a lot of hiring, FYI)

And speaking of a bigger rocket, another interesting thing happened: Stoke Space just closed a $1B to get Nova Pathfinder flying and push Nova Block 2 (a 15 t class, fully reusable launcher more on the Falcon 9 weightclass). Just compare the ambitions…

On another positive note though, closer to home, The Exploration Company raised $450m (largest European space Series C so far) for Nyx and the Storm engine. And yesterday in sunny Spain, PLD Space presented Miura 9: a bigger and reusable evolution to Miura 5 (as much as I like it, they still have to reach orbit with either rocket as the Miura 1 was a suborbital rocket… but it’s looking good!

The summary is that this was Europe’s launch week, basically 😎 next time you’ll come to Find a Space Job to search for all those roles ;)

That's all for this week.

Until next week,
Jaime
