Big week. Even bigger news coming.
Space jobs, Starship launch, and something we've been building for a while
Good morning!
It’s been a MASSIVE week in space... and it can only get better.
Starship had an aborted launch attempt but it’s trying again today so if you had no Friday night plans now you can watch the livestream. Tonights one has been very very very good.
And apart from that: hiring in the space industry isn’t slowing down at all despite peopel claiming otherwise. Also, we’ve got some good news coming in very soon so you might want to keep reading…
But first the space jobs 👇
🚀 Spotlight: New on findaspacejob.com
Here are some of the best space jobs available today:
Software Engineering Intern @ Eutelsat (UK)
👉 If you're a software student, stop scrolling, click apply, get the job and thank me later (please).
Lead AIT Engineer @ Revolv Space (Italy)
👉 Hands-on in the lab AND leading the team AND owning the whole production floor AND why not be you?
PhD Position in Space Research & Astrobiology @ University of Alcala (Spain)
👉 Astrobiology PhD near Madrid. If you've ever wanted to search for life beyond Earth for a living, this is literally the programme for that (but depends on what living standards you have… PhD salaries can get close to that of CEOs)
Responsable Mission IoT @ Kineis (France)
👉 For my french speaking friends: Europe's first IoT satellite constellation needs its mission lead. To be fair they do say english is mandatory… so you can also try.
Electric Propulsion Engineer @ ESA (The Netherlands)
👉 This one is for the pros. Work on everything from LEO constellations to interplanetary missions.
Project Manager @ ESO (Chile)
👉 Not quite ESA but by a letter… and not quite in Europe but it’s such a good role I know a lot would like so don’t miss this chance! Plus, there winter is startin soon so if you want to run away from the summer heat… yet another reason to apply!
Working Student Propulsion Engineer (m/f/d) @ POLARIS (Germany)
👉 A working student role at a spaceplane startup where you actually design and test rocket engines. I think I should say it again… student (maybe you?) gets to build literally a rocket plane!!!!
Security Architect @ Rivada (Germany)
👉 Help secure the "OuterNET": a private satellite mesh network with laser inter-satellite links, built for governments and enterprises who need actual security.
If you do not see a role you like here, go check the job board for the full list. There’s A LOT OF ACTIVE SPACE JOBS now!
👀 The talent pool is almost here
We've been building something on the platform side and it's nearly ready.
Companies are already registered and set up. The candidate talent pool (which is where companies can actually search for people rather than
just post and wait) is in the final stretch.
If you haven't created your profile yet, now is (again) the right time. The companies who are already there will start searching as soon as it goes live, and the candidates already in the database will be the first ones they find.
👉 Create your candidate profile…
….unless your job search strategy is similar to this (in which case good luck)
More very soon.
🗞️ This week in space
Starship is flying again (well… trying to)
SpaceX attempted another Starship launch tonight, but the countdown ended in an abort just before liftoff. The good news? They’re already going again today.
So if your Friday night plans were weak anyway, congratulations: you now have a livestream to watch.
Starship is still the craziest engineering project happening right now. Fully reusable, and insanely large payload capacity, and is designed for rapid launches. If SpaceX gets this thing operational at scale, the entire economics of space changes overnight.
If you want a very nice (perhaps a bit detailed) video of what changes from other past Starship test launches, check this video out:
Definitely worth a watch!
SpaceX IPO
And continuing with SpaceX, yesterday they filed for IPO. That means you will soon be able to buy $SPCX shares and technically own part of SpaceX (and, don’t forget, Twitter as a result haha). As part of this filing they gave some insight into their financials and they look very good and not very good:
Starlink is literally printing money and has a lot more to print in the future
But as a result of the xAI merger, they are overall losing money (and quite a lot).
Essentially they are betting big time on AI and are becoming less of a ‘space company’ as we know it. But big time doesn’t even fully describe it: their claimed TAM (the total market they hope to address) is 28.5 trillion (with a T) out of which (get ready) 26.5 trillion are AI-related.
You make of it what you will. But whatever you do: be sure to follow Starship’s launch tonight!
That's all for this week.
Apply to something. Or share this with someone who should.
Until next week,
Jaime
