25+ Space Jobs + Rare Human Spaceflight Roles

Number #10 is here. This week we go beyond rockets with jobs for humans in space.

Here we are, Issue #10.

It’s a small milestone, but it feels significant. This community is growing every week, and it’s because of your interest and your willingness to share it with others. So big thanks to you! The plan is to keep going… and some cool ideas are on the table 👀

Off we go.

🚀 Spotlight: REA Space on findaspacejob.com

Some new opportunities have been added over the past days in particular from a company you might not know: REA Space.

Based in Italy, they are not your typical rocket or satellite builder. Far from it: they demonstrate that the space industry isn’t just about rockets or satellites but there’s a lot more to it. They focus on developing wearables and protective tools for humans in space.

In particular, they are developing the EMSi Spacesuit: the first intravehicular active spacesuit designed to counteract the (negative) effects of microgravity on the astronaut’s body.

These roles are a rare chance to get into the human spaceflight side of the industry, which is usually hard to access. They are hiring for several roles so do check these three (and more on the board!) and if you have a background in operations, mechanical, biomedical or software engineering, take a look.

  1. Mechanical Engineer / CAD Designer @ REA Space (Italy)

  2. Operations Specialist @ REA Space (Italy)

  3. Biomedical Engineer / Operations @ REA Space (Italy)

Applying when you don't meet 100% of the requirements

A quick reminder on this, because I keep getting questions about it.

Should you apply if you don't tick every single box on a job description?

Yes.

(Of course, if you think you can meet the basic job responsibilities. Don’t apply to a Head of Engineering position if you just graduated from university… unless it’s a very small startup - in that case you might pull it off if you’re good… but you get the point.

Job descriptions are oftentimes a wishlist from the hiring manager. If you meet around 70% of the job requirements and can show you are a fast learner with a genuine interest in the company's mission, you are a strong candidate.

The 'No’ you already have it if you don’t apply. So why not increase your odds to get that ‘Yes’?

📚 Book recommendation: “Lift Off” by Eric Berger

For those who might still be thinking about their summer read? Here’s my suggestion: Lift Off by Eric Berger.

This book tells the story of the very beginnings of SpaceX and the (numerous and nearly catastrophic, for the company, that is) failures of the Falcon 1 rocket on a remote island in the Pacific. It's a story about a small team pushing against bankruptcy, technical disaster and impossible odds.

(It’s not only me who says this but Elon Musk also recommends this:

“Just read it”.

So there you go)

As I said last week: it might not help you get a job… but it’s an amazing read.
